FAQ

How do I compare you with other magicians and mind readers?

That’s a tough one.  Without seeing somebody in action it’s hard to make comparisons.  One warning: there are a lot of magicians who claim on their website they do a cabaret or stand-up act, when they actually only really do close-up magic.

“It is not always very easy to find a suitable after dinner entertainment by looking at the blurb. But how lucky that we picked you for our dinner for approx 150 well oiled chemical distributors and customers. There have only been good reports from all 15 tables since our dinner and you are responsible for ensuring the evening was a great success.”  Brian Orange, Chairman of The British Chemical Distributors and Traders Association

If somebody makes a claim to perform an after dinner act, check the following:

  • Do they have relevant testimonials?
  • Do they have action photographs from actual shows?  A comprehensive range of photos can be seen throughout my website.
  • Do they have a video of themselves performing stand-up?
  • Do they regularly perform for your type of audience?  Doing a show at a private house party is very different to performing for the sales division of a pharmaceutical company.
  • Do they perform for 45 minutes?  You won’t necessarily want someone to do that long.  But an experienced performer will certainly be happy to do that.

My event isn't corporate - are you still suitable?

Absolutely.  I perform at plenty of private parties, weddings, social clubs, Rotary functions and other non-corporate events.  I also do my own one man show which I’ve done all over the country in village halls and small art centres.  Please go to non corporate entertainment for examples and details of where else I perform.

Can I book you as an after-dinner speaker?

You can - I often am!

“In previous years we have successfully used a standard format of a speaker and comedian entertainment for our yearly dinner.  This year we decided with some reservation to change the proven format inviting you instead of a guest speaker.  We need not have worried because your show was a showstopper.  I cannot tell you how many people have approached me to say what a fantastic night’s entertainment you gave them.  Without question you have been the best received entertainer we have had in the thirteen years of this event.”
Tony Clayton, Leyland Trucks

“I have to confess that I had a small hesitation when we first booked you in case a ‘magician and mind reader’ might not be suitable for a formal black tie dinner.  However every possible doubt was dispelled on the night.  Everyone enjoyed the act and the feedback has been tremendous.  The change from a traditional after dinner speaker was universally welcomed.”
Dianne Jennings, Secretary, Federation of Piling Specialists

How far do you travel?

I am based in London but I work all over the country, including Scotland, Wales and  abroad.

“Many thanks for your excellent entertainment at the IMCA Midsummer Ball in Aberdeen.  We all enjoyed your presentation combining comedy and magic immensely.  The formal feedback we received was all very complimentary and they congratulated us on finding you!  For informal feedback, I took a few glances at the audience and it was obvious how much they loved you.”
Hugh Williams, Chief Executive,
The International Marine Contractors Association.

Do you have a maximum size of audience?

So long as everybody can see and hear me, no.  With a large audience (over 100 in attendance) I might need some sort of staging.  Please ask for my Schedule of Requirements for more details.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you entertaining us, an audience of 500 plus, so well.  Everyone I know thoroughly enjoyed your act.”
John F Coyne, Chief Executive, Hire Association Europe

“Your contribution to the evening was enormous and you had 360 Chartered Accountants and their guests captivated.  We have been delighted by the feedback on your performance and have had a few attendees asking for your details for future bookings.”
Graeme Sheils, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland

Do you have a minimum size audience?

No.  My style is very flexible and I can adapt my tricks and humour for small numbers.

“Just a quick note to thank you very much for your splendid work at our dinner last week.  To take on, and vanquish, a small team of experienced and sceptical traders, is a great testimony to your skill.  We were mightily impressed and vastly entertained.”
Jamie Bebb, Nomura Gilts Limited

Have you always been a corporate entertainment magician and mind reader?

I have been a full-time entertainer since 1990 but I used to be an accountant.  In fact I still look like an accountant (when I walk out the audience are expecting a power point presentation on personal pensions!) which makes my mind reading and comedy all the more unexpected and entertaining.

How much do you cost?

This depends on a number of factors so I’m afraid I can’t give you a definite answer.  Please contact me to discuss this further.

I have another question!

Sorry about that.  I have tried to answer the questions I am most asked.  Please get in touch and I will swiftly reply.
